Ann Arbor’s Newest Event: Introducing Silent Book Club at BrightWorks
We’re excited to open a new chapter in Ann Arbor community event: an addition for the readers among us. BrightWorks Coworking is launching Silent Book Club, a low-pressure gathering for anyone who loves to read.
Show up, bring a book, audiobook, magazine, or whatever you’re currently into, and spend an hour reading alongside other people who love the same thing. No assigned title. No discussion required. Just quiet company and good books.
About Ann Arbor Silent Book Club
Silent Book Club is open to the community — you don’t need a BrightWorks membership to join. It’s a chance to unplug, read something you want to read, and be around fellow book lovers.
Think of it as a low-barrier way to spend an evening, whether you’re a lifelong reader or just looking for a quiet hour to disconnect from your screen. It’s a great fit for people trying to build a reading habit, meet like-minded neighbors, or simply enjoy being around others without the pressure of small talk.
What makes the format work:
- A built-in community through BrightWorks’ existing ecosystem
- A comfortable, quiet space designed for focus
- A simple recurring schedule anyone can build into their routine
How the Evening Works
- 6:00–6:30 PM — Arrive, grab a drink or snack, get comfortable, and chat with fellow readers (optional)
- 6:30–7:30 PM — Enjoy a quiet hour of uninterrupted reading
- 7:30–8:00 PM — Stay to socialize, exchange book recommendations, or keep reading
As Kate Arbour, BrightWorks Community Manager, puts it: “People are looking for more ways to slow down, step away from their screens and connect with others in a comfortable, low-pressure setting. Silent Book Club brings those things together by creating space for people to read at their own pace while still feeling part of a community.”
